Hammertoe treatment

Discuss hammertoe symptoms and conservative or surgical care with Dr. Amy Richardson at Lake Sammamish Foot & Ankle.

What’s a hammertoe?

A hammertoe is a deformity in which a toe bends at its middle joint. An imbalance in the muscles, tendons, or ligaments can prevent the toe from lying straight. A bunion, injury, arthritis, inherited foot structure, or genetics can contribute.

Hammertoe treatment

Treatment starts with identifying the factors contributing to the hammertoe. Depending on your evaluation, care may include improving shoe fit, treating a bunion, or addressing another underlying foot problem.

Treatment options may include:

  • Changing shoes

  • Padding techniques

  • Orthotics

  • Surgical intervention

Each hammertoe is different. A podiatrist can help develop a treatment plan tailored to your symptoms and foot structure.

Request an evaluation with Dr. Richardson to discuss a diagnosis and individual treatment plan. Surgery may be an option in advanced cases.

Dr. Richardson has more than 20 years of podiatric experience, including surgical care. Contact the clinic to discuss your hammertoe concerns.
